ITINERARY - 7-DAY ALLURE OF AZERBAIJAN TOUR 2011
Day 1, Tue 4 Oct: Arrive in Baku
- Arrive in Baku.
- Meet and transfer to hotel. (I expect that most, if not all, PAX will arrive from Istanbul in late afternoon).
- DINNER at hotel. (D)

Day 2, Wed 5 Oct: In Baku
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Walking tour of Baku after breakfast at hotel, including the medieval walled city "Icheri Sheher" with its narrow alleyways, historic caravanserais, mosques and Palace of the Shirvanshahs.
- Visit to the 12th century Maiden’s Tower, the imposing mansions of the oil barons, built in the oil boom of 1870-1914 and Martyr’s Alley with its superb views over the Bay of Baku.
- LUCH (in a local Restaurant/Café).
- A trip to the Absheron Peninsula, visiting the Zoroastrian Fire Temple and Yanardagh (Burning Mountain).
- DINNER at traditional local restaurant.
- Transfer to Hotel (B/L/D)
Overnight in Baku
Day 3, Thu 6 Oct: Baku - Gobustan
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- After breakfast, drive to Gobustan to see ancient petroglyphes.
- Drive back to the city
- LUNCH in a local Restaurant/Café.
- Visit to the carpet museum
- Rest of the day at leisure in Baku

Day 4, Fri 7 Oct: Baku - Shamakhi - Sheki
- Breakfast at hotel.
- Depart for the Caucasus Mountains in the northwest of Azerbaijan. The dry landscape around Baku gives way to a densely forested mountain area.
- Visit the town of Shemakha, Juma Mosque and Yeddi Gumbez.
- LUNCH in local restaurant/café.
- Drive to and arrive in Sheki.
- Check in at Karvansaray Hotel
- Drive into the countryside to the village of Kish with the oldest church in the Caucasus dating from the first century and enjoy walks in the surrounding Caucasus foothills.
- DINNER at a good local restaurant.
- Transfer to Hotel (B/L/D)
Overnight in Kish
Day 5, Sat 8 Oct: Sheki - Kish - Baku
- Breakfast at hotel
- Visit the Royal Summer Palace of the Sheki Khans with its magnificent frescoes and stained glass as well as Sheki Museum and Fortress.
- Visit Sheki Market
- LUNCH at a good restaurant/café (on the road?)
- Arrive in Baku and transfer to hotel. (B/L)

Day 6, Sun 9 Oct: Baku - Guba - Baku
- Breakfast in the hotel
- Drive to Guba
- A tea stop at Beshbarmag Mountain (Sacred Place). Not climbimg.
- Arrive at Guba and Guba City Tour
- LUNCH at a local café
- Tour to Krasnaya Sloboda Jewish Settlement
- Visit Qadim Quba carpet weaving facilities
- Photo-stop at panoramic places
- Drive back to Baku
- DINNER at the hotel (B/L/D)
Overnight in Baku
Day 7, Mon 10 Oct: In Baku
- Breakfast at hotel
- Transfer to Airport for flight to home country OR onward destinations (e.g. Iran for Treasures of Persia tour) as appropriate. (B)
